A background in design combined with fine art training, has led Michael Harris to a broad
sculptural practice that explores materials for their own qualities, whilst also taking into account
their context. Objects are restructured or deconstructed, to become new sculptures or
photographic prints. Materials are transformed in often contradictory and humorous ways,
such as lead toy figures cast in bronze.

With highly developed technique in stone carving, clay modelling and construction that combines
materials, his practice embodies both technical skill and a refined sense of the aesthetic.

Recent public commissions include a large outdoor sculpture for the town of Odemira in Portugal
and a collaborative workshop for World Mental Health Day, funded by the Arts Council and the
hospital Trust.
